First contribution on Leiden Madtrics: Reclaiming the scholarly ecosystem

My first contribution to Leiden Madtrics, the official blog of CWTS, is now live: “Reclaiming the scholarly ecosystem: reflections on the first CWTS research seminar of 2026”.

I must say it is the outcome of what I would call a triple joy:

  • The joy of reading a thought-provoking book and listening to the presentation from Samuel Moore, which left me with a bunch of notes.
  • The joy of discussing it together with other colleagues at CWTS and those who attended the seminar, who really care about the scholarly ecosystem a lot.
  • The joy of writing together with my colleague Tanya Lee, who shares a common background of research with different topics of interest, and not to mention a great experience with the Leiden Madtrics editorial team.

I definitely recommend reading the book Publishing Beyond the Market, as we couldn’t summarize all its value in this short post.
